The Hok bridges the gap between skiing and snowshoeing for an entirely new on-snow experience! The perfect, universal tool for exploring right out your back door, as well as any backcountry territory and variable terrain, from flat and rolling terrain to steep vertical. Take them where you would normally adventure out on backcountry skis or snowshoes - breaking new trail, bushwhacking, hut to hut trekking - and experience what the friendly innovators at Altai Skis are calling 'skishoeing'.
The Altai Hok defines the pinnacle of 'skishoeing', combining the maneuverability, grip and ease of use of a snowshoe with the gliding properties and naturally carved downhill alpine turns-telemark turns of a backcountry touring ski. Versatile, the Hok Altai skis are ideal for exploring woods close to home and also navigating variable terrain on extended day and overnight trips, but can be used whenever and wherever there is snow.
An integrated synthetic climbing skin on the ski base gives the Hok great uphill grip, while at the same time enhancing stability and control on the downhills without hindering the varying speed comfort levels of backcountry skier abilities. Full length steel edges provide further downhill control, enable the user to make solid turns in snow conditions from deep powder to ice and crud. Metal edges also hold the Altai skis firm on tricky traverses and other variable terrain. The Altai Ski Company proudly minimizes carbon footprint through the use of a sustainable paulownia wood core reinforced with organic natural fibers and fiberglass blend.
Virtually maintenance free, we recommend simply applying a quick coat of liquid glide wax before each outing, such as Swix Easy Glide (see accessories below), to improve ski glide and prevent snow from sticking to ski bases.
Available in 125cm and 145cm length options

Altai Hok Sizing Details Chart:
*please contact us if you have any additional questions regarding proper sizing
The Hok is available in 125cm and 145cm lengths.
While user height/weight can be a factor in deciding which size to select, more important is intended use. Here are descriptions of the differences between the two lengths, providing the information in determining which size to select:
- The 145cm lenght Altai Hok skis offer a little more 'ski DNA' for those looking to pilot the Hoks in a more agressive downhill fashion to execute telemark turns and alpine turns. The 145cm option provides a bit more glide also. However, it is somewhat less maneuverable in tight spaces, depending on user ability. The Altai Hok 145cm option floats a bit more on top of deep snow, especially for bigger size users.
- The 125cm option is better as a superior snowshoe substitute, is more maneuverable, better in thickly wooded areas, tight brush and bushwacking, more lightweight, and delivers a little better grip over the 145cm option. The Hok 125cm is also easier to control and perform for those users more unfamiliar with skis, perhaps coming coming from a snowshoeing background as well.
- Both Altai ski size options turn very well, with the 125cm Hok being somewhat easier due to the more compact length, but will also be a little less stable at higher speeds on the descents.
- For general, all-purpose backcountry touring use and as a snowshoe substitute, the 125cm size works best. The ski length will also affect your boots / bindings selection, with the Hok 125cm being easier to pilot using any winter snow boots and hiking boots with the Altai Universal Bindings, or using a more light-duty backcountry ski boot with any binding options such as NNN BC, SNS BC, and 75mm 3-pin style backcountry ski bindings.
DETAILS OF ALL ALTAI HOK ORDERING OPTIONS
(*select your choice from order options drop-down box below)
(1) ALTAI HOK SKIS ONLY
Pair of Hoks in choice of 125cm and 145cm lengths. The Hok skis do include factory pre-drilled inserts. The binding inserts match the hole pattern for modern 75mm 3-Pin backcountry bindings, such as the Altai's own 75mm 3pin model, Voile 3-Pin HD Mountaineer binding and the Voile 75mm 3-Pin Cable binding. When paired up with a rugged 75mm backcountry boot, you’ll have the best mix of control, weight, comfort and confidence to go just about anywhere.
(2) ALTAI HOK SKIS + NNN BC/SNS/3 HOLE TELE ADAPTER PLATE
This option includes a pair of adapter plates that allow you to mount any NNN BC binding, Salomon SNS binding, or 4 hole tele binding of your choice. These adapter plates connect seamlessly to the HOK factory pre-drilled binding inserts.
(3) ALTAI HOK SKIS + ALTAI 75mm 3-PIN BINDINGS
This option includes the premium Altai 75mm 3-pin backcountry bindings mounted to the factory pre-drilled binding inserts. Pair this set up with the backcountry 75mm ski boots of your choice, and you're set to go right away!
(4) ALTAI HOK SKIS + XTRACE UNIVERSAL BINDINGS
If you prefer the convenience of simply strapping in using your existing snow boots or any winter footwear, the Altai Ski Company has developed a universal binding called the XTrace Universal Binding. This option transforms the Hok into a true snowshoes-skis hybrid. The Xtrace set up won’t give you as much downhill control as a backcountry 3pin 75mm ski bindings / boots combination would. However, if the concept of snowshoeing anywhere, along with the thrill of making ski turns on the downhills appeals to you, this is the option for you. XTrace bindings feature a fully adjustable, one-size-fits-all design. Bindings pre-mounted for your convenience.
(5) ALTAI HOK SKIS + NNN BC MAGNUM BINDINGS + NNN BC/SNS/3 HOLE TELE ADAPTER PLATE
This option includes a pair of NNN BC Magnum backcountry ski bindings mounted. This option is made possible using the proprietary Altai NNN BC Adapter Plates that connect seamlessly to the HOK factory pre-drilled binding inserts. The NNN BC Magnum bindings mount to the Altai NNN BC Adapter Plate on each ski. Pair this set up with the backcountry touring NNN BC ski boots of your choice, and you're set to go right away!
For all ranges of backcountry experiences, from casual touring to high-performance downhill skiing in snow filled bowls, avalanche slides, and secret tree lines. The waxless fishscale base allows you to get from point A to point B without needing climbing skins (for steepest pitches, however, we do highly recommend climbing skins). Stays afloat in deep, soft snow and busts through heavy, wet crud.
