The all-new 2013 Fischer S-Bound 88 backcountry skis strike the optimum balance between two extremes of backcountry skiing: one extreme being kick and glide stride backcountry touring on packed snow and/or powder across flat or rolling terrain, and the other being pointing the skis downhill and making turns. Featuring an 88mm-68mm-78mm profile, the Fischer S-Bound 88 skis provide ample width for good flotation and stability in deep snow, while still maintaining plenty of sidecut for cranking out easy and natural telemark turns. Although wide enough for good float in powder, the profile is narrow enough and the camber is snappy enough for superb glide on flats and rollers.
Aside from a profile that makes these an excellent all around back country touring choice, the Fischer 88 S-Bound skis have full metal edges for maximum control when downhill turning, traversing and stopping. The Fischer Skis proprietary, integrated Snow shocks suck up vibrations from hard pack snow and icy conditions, while the unique Nordic Rocker camber helps the tips rise in softer snow for excellent float. Other features include the new Offtrack Crown base pattern, which is a positive waxless pattern that enables solid, reliable grip on uphill climbs and traverses in all snow conditions. (For those of you who remember the older model Fischer S-Bounds with the negative waxless pattern, you may recall that they didn’t grip on hills very well. Thanks to the new Offtrack Crown waxless skis pattern, that is no longer the case!) And although there is now a positive base pattern, the glide zones are made of Sintec, meaning you can optionally hotwax the glide zones for the best possible glide. Otherwise, applying a coat of rub on glide wax, such as Swix Easy Glide (see accessories below), will do a great job and is much less of a hassle.
