The all-new 2013 Fischer S-Bound 98 backcountry skis are waxless, full-metal edge back country touring skis best described as a slightly toned down version of the Fischer S-Bound 112 skis. Designed for superior performance in a universal range of challenging backcountry terrain and snow conditions. With a profile of 98-69-88mm, the Fischer S-Bound 98 skis feature the versatility needed for extended backcountry touring, hut to hut skiing and performing flawlessly on the downhills. Performs equally well in fresh powder, crud and ice. Wide enough for breaking trail in untracked snow and ample, aggressive sidecut for easy, controlled and natural downhill telemark turns.
An industry first, the S-Bound 98 is built with rocker technology for unprecedented off track performance. Unlike traditional cambers that flatten out, the tips of the Fischer S-Bound 98 skis elevate, or rock upward when pressured which moves the contact point back on the ski, delivering greater stability, improved flotation and smoother turns in deep snow. The Fischer S-Bound 98 skis also feature Fischer Skis all-new, proprietary OffTrack Pattern, a molded positive kick pattern that is inserted into the ski’s midsection. This innovative waxless skis process of inserting the base pattern results in a ski that has the best of both worlds: a waxless positive kick pattern for exceptional uphill grip and kick & glide striding, plus sintered glide zones which can be optionally hot waxed for unmatched glide.
The modern shorter, more compact design with aggressive sidecut ensures a dynamic and controlled feel whether maneuvering through tricky, tightly wooded sections on the uphills and downhills or making quick time kick & glide striding along the snow covered valley floors. The Fischer S-Bound 98 skis are virtually maintenance free, we recommend simply applying a quick coat of liquid glide wax before each outing, such as Swix Easy Glide (see accessories below), to improve ski glide and prevent snow from sticking to ski bases.
