Just picked up the Karhu XCD Guide package with the Voile 3-pin cable bindings, Rossignol BC X11 boots and Black Diamond poles. The package deal is unbelievable, and the equipment is second to none. I had them out in the Colorado powder and was amazed at how well they performed. You won't find a better deal, or better equipment, for backcountry exploring.

Backcountry package for deep descents

I tried out this package and it is a good package if you use it for heavy downhill descents. My rating was a 4 only because it ended up not being the right fit for me. However, the Karhu skis are the best out right now for waxless backcountry excursions. I ended up going with the 10th Mountain setup though because I am in an area with more rolling terrain. Turns are important to me, but so is the glide! Gliding on the Guides is more like a shuffle so think hard about how much flexibility you need before picking a package. Seriously though, I researched for three weeks and basically after all that work, I ended up with the component choices offered here at ORS. They have the research already done for you.
